We are Maximilian Rindfleisch (21) and Mona Nielen (20), the Change Writer. In 2011 we finished high school, and since then we work as Youth-Journalists for the online Magazine for Wuppertal, called “Njuuz”. Change Writer is a project, which evolved out of the Pilot Youth Changemaker City Wuppertal, from the Ashoka Youth Initiatives. Our original goal was to enlighten, to inform and to report about engagement, to raise awareness in the direct environment and motivate to more own commitment. Due to our long lasting work with the Media Project Wuppertal, the medium film has become more and more important for us. That’s why we have decided to leave to South Africa from January 19th until July 15th 2012, to make a documentary film about the resistance against regime of Apartheid in South Africa.
Projectinformation:
In our documentation, we want to move the focus to the role of local, mainly Indian born Muslims. It should be worked out which origin the Apartheid regime had, as well as its consequences on the "non-whites" population which still feels the effects today. We want to mainly contact the survivors of the resistance or to the members of the resistance fighters and result in interviews, as well as visit important places, pursue and capture stories of those affected. Here, above all the current and former daily life plays a role. How looked life at that time? How has it changed at the time step by step and what about the today's everyday life? In how far, does this period affect today? What consequences / fears / expectations brought them with them? Especially family members of our interview partners play an important role to explain their impressions and opinions. We have already arranged to meet our first interview partner in South Africa (Saida Riyadh, Saad Cachalias and Salma Bhyat)
Targets:
Through this film, we want to do educational work as the role of SAICS in the Western countries stayer very much unknown. So, we want to inform about our blog (change writer.blogspot.com) during the journey of our approach and our experience as well as successes. After our documentary trip to Africa, the film about the media project will be shown in the Cinemaxx Wuppertal and be sent to schools and other educational institutions. We will submit the film to film festivals. We also can show the film on privately organized events.
